Lately, I've been getting increasingly upset at the sheer intellectual shoddiness of our thinking, as a species, about how we inhabit the planet. Four dichotomies in particular, really trip us up, with serious consequences. The dichotomies themselves are all useful, but the way we think about them (in fragmented, isolated, disconnected ways, without systematically theorizing connections within and across dichotomies) is terrible.
